Four Simple Life Hacks

What's a hack? It's a way to gain access!

Do you need a few life hacks? Here a few simple life hack reminders to access a fuller life.

  • Put music in your ear.  Yep, it elevates our souls. Turn it up to drain out the noise that keeps screaming in your ears, depleting you of the energy and hope you need to dance through life. Sing along with your voice and mind. Let it seep deep. Find the words and the rhythm that keep your head and heart up.  Lift your voice whether you're a shower singer, a confident radio karaoker, a contender for The Voice, or just a passionate barely passable voice. It can even be considered a workout if you sing long and loudly or dance and spin along! Drown out doubt, disappointment, despair, and defeat with a victory song! Right now, I'm singing loudly with Carrie Underwood's Love Wins.

  • Don't plan every moment. Not every moment in life needs an agenda. A plan certainly helps you hit the target in accomplishing necessary tasks, but it just might keep you so focused that you miss opportunities along your journey. When you create steps to achieve your hopes and dreams, you will meet with some disappointments. These disappointments might just lend some credence to the road less traveled.  Don't be afraid of the unplanned twists and turns while adventuring along your winding Yellow Brick Road. If life is a collection of memories, be willing to make them singing "Lions and Tigers, and Bears, oh my!" They might just help you learn a little more about yourself and help you reach that Emerald City.  And that might just "make all the difference" in life.  Amen Robert Frost!

  • Turn out the lights and look up. Get outside and stare at the stars. Stars remind us of how small we are--which really isn't a bad thing. Stars do seem small compared to the amount of energy we know they contribute to the universe. Every star you see in the night sky is brighter than that one sun star we worship.  Despite the myths, songs, and poems, we really can't see a million stars at once. They aren't even close or bright enough.  Oh, be reminded of the delight of being small but NOT insignificant among all the millions of people surrounding you.  You are a shining star bringing energy and life to others' lives.  Live your life with a little wonder, flare, and glimmer among the stars in your constellation: "Twinkle, Twinkle, little star. How I wonder what you are!"

Shine for those at work and play.

  • Do something on purpose for the first time. It might not be your biggest bucket list item. It might not be a jumping off a cliff type of challenge, but choose a new thing that might propel you to a smile and a new kind of joy. While you're out there getting where you're getting to, I sure hope that you make some decision on purpose to try a new thing.  There are a million little things that will shape our days, years, and life. Of all the daily 35,000 remotely conscious decisions Cornell University estimates we make in one day, make some of them on purpose (http://science.unctv.org/content/reportersblog/choices). For sure, doing something for the first time might not always feel easy or safe, but My Wish for you is that you make life a thing of your creating. Ride the DC subway all by yourself. Sit in the harvested cornfield at a Luke Bryan concert. Slide down that cramped McDonald's indoor playland slide with a three year old.

Cherie ... thanks for this lovely reminder not to plan every moment down to the nth degree. Sometimes we've just got to sit back and allow life to happen ... and enjoy what God sends us without overthinking it.

How fun to meet you tonight!
